We just found out that our house music video was accepted on Kickstarter. It only took two days to hear back! Stoked. Oh my goodness the work starts now. In order to add a little personality to our cause, we’ll be shooting a short video where we introduce ourselves and give a run down about the goals we envision. A good exercise for any project in general. After that, we’ll be reaching out to everybody and then some…

BIG FAT MUSIC VIDEO

Last year I had the sudden urge to buy a pair of quad skates. I don’t quite remember what threw me over the edge and made me purchase some Riedell R3s but oh boy did I need them. Actually, I think I was absorbed in youtube watching videos for another project and stumbled upon jamskating. Then my head exploded.

The best way to describe jamskating is break-dancing on roller skates. It’s intense and artful, something you definitely need to see to appreciate. These people can tumble, spin and freeze while on skates?! Insane.

What really drew me to the whole scene was the music, or lack there of. Usually coupled with hip-hop or old-school funk, jamskating hasn’t seemed to venture far enough down the road I dreamt of taking it. This is where house music comes in. Deep house has the soulful grooves to compliment the rhythm of skating while maintaining a solid bassline that can be choreographed to. Some favorites like Deeper (Baggi Begovic Dub Mix) by Copyright and Coyu & Uner’s Raw Sweat are perfect examples of what jamskating could match to. Can you picture it? Epic. So why hasn’t this been done before? Well maybe it has… I just can’t find any of it!

Ready to start a new project, I took a rough idea of the music video to my friend Priscilla Boksan, attorney turned film/TV producer and she was hip to it. We discussed a shooting schedule and planned to prep for two months with a tentative shoot date in late May. This gives us only a short window for pre-production, but working in bursts can do wonders for personal motivation.

Our first priority is to get a Kickstarter campaign going. We’ll need the funds to cover the impending doom of costs like production insurance, location/permit fees, equipment rental and happy tummies. Onward ho!

NEW LOOK

I recently re-did the site and gave it a stylish new look. I designed the banner using a font I’ve been wanting to feature in a project for quite a while: Post Office. Since I use wordpress, I like flexible themes that allow me to be creative while still maintaining a sense of order and minimalism. Luckily, I stumbled upon PageLines and their theme Platform. I’m testing out the free version for now and so far I’m loving how clean and customizable it is.

Union Wedding Services

I had the pleasure of working with Kyla Biba, the creative force behind Union Wedding Services in Venice Beach. She’s starting up a business that will offer custom wedding services like location scouting for your ceremony/reception, hairdressing (guys too), flower arrangement (and she knows her flowers!), and more. Needless to say, she’s pretty amazing and creative.

Off of her ideas, I crafted this logo for her company.

Cinequest Film Festival 20 – Inside Cinequest

I created this title sequence for Inside Cinequest in After Effects using the provided festival graphics. We only had a few days to get content together and up for viewing. It was a mad rush but we made it!

SchoolHouse Earth Logo

I recently completed a logo kit for the non-profit educational organization SchoolHouse Earth. They wanted to re-vamp the original logo but keep the same gist of a schoolhouse sitting on top of the Earth. Here’s what I came up with…

“Demo Expo” Cisco Logo & Poster

A little while back I created this poster and logo for an event for Cisco. This was such a fun project! I had a blast creating a batch of logos for them to toss around. The logo was going on T-Shirts for the attendees as well as banners and posters to promote the event.

After submitting all of the above logos, they decided they wanted something exploding out a box…like BOOM! “A box?” I said. “I can make a box! Watch me work my box magic!”

This is the completed logo, explosion and all! Illustrator did not appreciate rendering all the 3d popcorn bits…very much so. Below are two different versions I submitted for the poster. They ended up choosing the first.

Long Distance Clip

Here’s an update on my short Long Distance. This is just a clip that my DP Tosh Xiong shot and uploaded with a little color correction. It’s a pretty dark piece and this sets the mood perfectly.

I’m hoping to have a rough cut soon and then I can move on to casting for the voice overs.
